The early AOH in America remained a secret society that provided a monetary stipend to immigrants and they assisted Irish immigrants in obtaining jobs and social services. Today AOH members are at the forefront of support for issues concerning the Irish, such as Emigration Reform, MacBride Legislation, and the Right to Life. The ycan always be found actively lobbying for, praying for, and working for the total independence of a united 32-county Ireland, as their constitution avows: "by all means constitutional and lawful." Friendly Sons of St Patrick The organization exists "to pay tribute to the patron saint of Ireland and to foster goodwill and fellowship among those or Irish descent in San Diego County. The 69th New York was the First Regiment of Brig. Gen. Thomas Francis Meager's famed Irish Brigade that fought in all the major battles with the Union Army of the Potomac from Bull Run to Appomattox. With over 40 members today's 69th New York is one of Southern California's leading Civil War reenacting units. At Living History events, school programs and full scale reenactment battle scenarios we portray what life was like for Irish American soldiers and civilians during the War Between the States.
