Each year, close to 150,000 people attend the parade in Balboa Park! With over 150 entries, including marching bands and service organizations from around the world, this makes San Diego’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade the largest west of the Mississippi! In a day and age where there are fewer and fewer activities for families to enjoy together, we are proud to provide a great day for you, your family and friends!
To kick-start this event, we are hosting the 2009 Miss Colleen Pageant and Dinner on Sunday, January 25th at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. This Pageant celebrates Irish culture and unity within the San Diego Community and offers an opportunity for young women in the region to compete for the prestigious title of “Miss Colleen 2009.” With her title, she is awarded a trip to Ireland to participate in the Maiden of the Mournes contest, an international event held in Warrenpoint, Ireland.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE THE PARADE AND FESTIVAL. The success and future of these events requires more than the invaluable help and dedication of members of our community. We need financial support to keep the parade rolling. With operational costs increasing in double digits, we are asking for your monetary support in addition to your usual conviction and dedication!
By sponsoring, donating, or underwriting the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival and/or the 2009 Miss Colleen Pageant and Dinner, you will be playing an essential role in our continued success and longevity – and best of all, we will recognize, support and provide vital awareness for those agencies that put forth the best effort in making a better quality of life for these children.
