On Sunday January 27, 2008, members of the Irish Congress of Southern California and their guests and supporters gathered at the Holiday Inn on the Bay for the annual Miss Colleen Pageant and Benefit. Music was provided by the Irish musical group Harold and the Renegrades. Seven young and bright women competed for the title of Miss Colleen 2008 and for the opportunity to travel to Warrenpoint, Ireland, to participate in the Maiden of the Mournes contest this August.
Mick Ward emceed the event as he has for the past 24 years. The night began with a Silent Auction, which was very succesful again this year and was enjoyed by all who attended. The evening also featured a spectacular performance by Irish dancers from several of San Diego's Irish Dance schools.
The night concluded with the crowning of Meghan McLellan as the Miss Colleen for 2008. Miss McLellan is a Sophomore at Grossmont College and plans to further her education by majoring in Theatre Arts in the future. She is a very accomplihed Actress and has performed in plays throughout Southern Califonia to critical acclaim.
Mark your calendars! Next year's event will be held in early 2009 and promises to be another rousing affair. We look forward to your attendance, as it will support San Diego's St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival.
Do you know a young woman in the San Diego area, ages 18 - 25 of Irish decent? Encourage her to participate in next year's Miss Colleen Pageant.
